The best load I find for this rifle is 54 grain of IMR 4831 under a 150 hornady SP bullet. Most three-shots groups are in the .400 to .600". Read more...06-06-2004· I just got a new Winchester Model 70 Classic Sporter in 25-06. This rifle will be used primarily for coyotes/deer out to 600 yards. This is my first Winchester and I would like to know a couple things that would really help with the accuracy/consistency of the rifle.
Read more...26-10-2005· Post 64 Model 70s built in the 1970s are horrible and should be avoided at all costs. They are as thoroughly disreputable as a California politician. Model 70s built in the 80s are decent rifles. Now around 1988 or so, Winchester brought back the pre-64 style rifle with the Mauser extractor. These are the best factory rifles made in America today.

Read more...09-05-2021· Ditto on the accuracy of the Stealth M70. I have a .308 Stealth II with CRF and it has shot a 1/4" 5-shot group with factory 155 A-Max Match. I can't do that every time but it always shoots 1/2" or better with that ammo.
Read more...15-07-2013· Current Winchester Model 70 rifles are lazer cut checkering with a few exceptions. I have from 1942 to current (2016) from JOC, Super Grade, Featherweight, High Grade Featherwieight Lightweight, etc. I own one Browning X Bolt and that too is a beauty. My firm conclusion is modern Winchester Model 70s are excellent. Compared to any rifle, anywhere.
