Nov 10, 2005· As for HOW we do it, first we humidify the guitar very heavily for a while (a week or two, at least) to get the crack to close up. We then work some glue into the crack, and put some cleats inside the guitar with their grain orientation situated to strengthen the joint. This sounds a lot easier than it actually is, and it is very easy to screw up.

Read more...In one case I removed the back to re- glue the braces and do some crack repair. That was a trick ! This particular job was not that intense, but it was a challenge. The top had a crack that ran with the grain from the butt end to the bridge area where there was a little shatter and a then the crack dog-legged over and up to the inlaid pickguard.

For example, if the crack is wide and due to humidity the luthier may clamp it and properly humidify the guitar, then glue it as the edges of the crack come closer together.

There is a crack on it, which the seller mentioned and he also said that it hasn't grown any in the years that he's owned it. It's between 5-6 inches coming up from the bottom on the top.I plan on holding onto this guitar for a while, so I plan on getting it fixed.

Fwiw my old D18 has both the key crack and the other classic, Martins pick guitar crack. Both were fixed with HHG years ago and are completely stable now.

The lower bout on the bass side was broken off in 4 seperate pieces. The longish cleats are actually over two cracks. The centerline has begun to spilt at both ends and is repaired and well as a few other small cracks.

While I'm not opposed to accumulating some mojo on this guitar, I'd also be up for some technical experimentation I'd never try on my Martin. I'm pretty sure the JO-27 has a nitrocellulose lacquer finish.
