Read more...30-07-2020· Road 862 is completely paved from road number 1 to the large Dettifoss parking lot, it seems brand new, and it is usually opened from April till December. It might be open even during the winter, but it really depends on the conditions and snowfall, so when you travel outside the summer season, it is always better to ask in one of the nearby Visitors Centers about the road closures.

Read more...I must say that 864 is a rough road. The 60km took almost 2 hours since I was generally driving around 30-40kmph. Luckily, Dettifoss was right in the middle and broke the journey in half and I got to stop. 862 is paved up to Dettifoss, but I've read over and over and it is worse than 864 past there and even single lane at times.
